We asked her to share more about her career journey, the impact of her work, and the insights she’s gained from bridging data and patient care.
Why did you choose to join Cepheid?
After years of consulting, I was ready to take on the challenge of seeing products through from early development all the way to commercial success. I wanted to be part of the full journey—not just a small piece of it. I’ve always been passionate about the role diagnostics play in healthcare. They drive around 70% of medical decisions, yet their value is often underrecognized. I was drawn to Cepheid because of its focus on infectious disease testing—an area that truly matters and doesn’t contribute to the over-treatment of disease, as can be the case with some other areas. I also believe that process is what enables innovation to scale, and Cepheid’s use of the Danaher Business System (DBS) exemplifies that. Joining the team felt like the right opportunity to contribute meaningfully and grow.
What past educational, research, or professional experience are you most proud of?
I’m proud to serve as a guest lecturer for the Stanford Biodesign fellowship program, where I teach health economics, market access, and reimbursement. It’s an honor to be recognized by such a prestigious program, but what I value most is the chance to mentor and collaborate with future leaders who are working to solve some of healthcare’s toughest challenges. Their energy and creativity are inspiring, and I’m grateful to play a role in shaping their journey.
Why does the field of diagnostics bring you professional fulfillment?
HEOR is still a relatively young field, and in diagnostics, it’s even newer. Unlike pharma, where clinical trials must prove a drug’s impact on patient outcomes, diagnostics often face a more complex challenge: we must show that better information leads to better decisions—and that those decisions could improve health. That means we’re not only reliant on having better treatment options available, but also on the willingness of clinicians, administrators, and patients to act on diagnostic insights. It’s a nuanced and meaningful problem to solve, and I find deep fulfillment in helping build the evidence that supports better care through diagnostics.
What notable contributions have you made to Cepheid?
Since joining Cepheid, I’ve co-authored eight conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate the value of our tests. I also developed and rolled out our integrated evidence planning process across the organization—helping to align our efforts and strengthen the impact of our work.
What is your unique hobby or talent?
I’m a licensed yoga instructor and have more than six years of teaching experience in studios across the county. Recently, I’m channeling that discipline and energy into training for a triathlon!
What inspires you outside of work?
My mom is a constant source of inspiration. She spent over 20 years as an educator in the school district I attended, retired briefly, and then returned serving in a new role as a “village builder.” She now supports children whose early development was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, helping them catch up socially and academically. Her work has been recognized by the district, and her dedication reminds me every day of the power of compassion, resilience, and purpose.
