Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been and continues to be a growing problem. Multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) are microorganisms (predominantly bacteria) that have become resistant to one or more classes of antimicrobials — especially antibiotics (ABX). ABX-resistant infections are responsible for about 700,000 annual global deaths (50,000 in the United States), potentially growing to 10 million annually by 2050. In the United States alone, 3 million people face an ABX-resistant infection annually.
AMR significantly impacts hospitals and health systems. Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) lead to longer hospital stays, higher mortality rates, and increased medical costs.
Learn about how you can fight AMR for your patients with Antimicrobial and Diagnostic Stewardship in your hospital or health system.
