The Family Giving Tree
The Family Giving Tree is a nonprofit organization, based in California's San Francisco Bay Area, dedicated to fulfilling the Holiday wishes of children who would otherwise go without gifts.
The Giving Tree Holiday Program works with more than 250 Bay Area social service agencies. These agencies supply us with the names and wishes of the children they serve year-round. A wish card is printed for each child, detailing their age, gender, first name and their wish for a holiday gift.
Over 900 Bay Area companies and schools participate in the program by displaying the wish cards, often on trees, in their lobbies and other public areas. It is the generosity of employees that make this program a success. By selecting a wish card, employees pledge to purchase a gift for a child in need.
Blood Centers of the Pacific
Whether it's a seven-year-old battling leukemia, a father of four injured in a serious car accident or a 65-year-old woman having heart surgery, every day, hundreds of people in our communities need blood - and there is no substitute for it. Blood Centers of the Pacific provides the critical link between blood donors who generously give the gift of life and the local patients who need this lifesaving gift.
Blood Centers of the Pacific is a nonprofit, community-based organization that provides blood and blood components to hospitals, physicians and patients throughout Northern California. It also houses the Blood Systems Research Institute which conducts medical research to improve blood safety and patient care. Blood Centers of the Pacific helps 50 000 patients every year with blood donated by community volunteers.
Back to School Backpack Drive
In Santa Clara county 90 000 children are enrolled in the California Free or Reduced Lunch Program (Title I). In 2007, together with caring companies, we helped 15 000 low-income children in the Title I program by providing them with a new backpack containing tools they need to succeed.
This program operates much like The Family Giving Tree's Holiday Program, where wish cards are located in central locations in Bay Area businesses and schools. Host companies, groups, organizations or schools display our colorful posters attractively decorated with cards listing needed school supplies. Individuals have two ways to participate: take a card and shop for a new backpack and fill it with recommended school supplies or provide funds either by mail, phone, or online and we will purchase the items. We collect and sort the backpacks and distribute them to low-income students via teachers and social service agencies.
